What is cognitive presence in distance education?
Cognitive presence in distance education can basically be explained as students engaging in class, actively participating and joining the discussions throughout the classes and brainstorming with their classmates on the topic effectively. To be more precise, not having any gaps between what is learned and what is tought or presented throughout the class, shows the cognitive presence of a student. So, apparently, students need to actively engage in classes for effective learning.
When a group of learners exchange experience based feedbacks with each other, it creates a cognitive cycle of successful learning among learners.
Social presence is basically "Interaction" which means to be in touch with other learners and interacting with them. Teaching presence is setting the curriculum, engaging in the classroom. All three of these makes Educational Experience which is always needed in effective teaching/learning.
